Overview:
This entire 4,800 sq ft unit was completely gutted and redesigned for open space, efficient, light-filled living that includes intimate seating areas and improved cabinet storage. Walls between the original kitchen, dining, storage, and living room spaces were removed to create functional, light-filled rooms. The new kitchen/family/wine bar areas now open naturally into the dining and music room spaces. Storage was accommodated through the use of custom built-in cabinetry and book shelves, as well as ‘secret’ wall blending storage cabinets that house the family’s prized china collection. During formal entertaining, the homeowners can close the kitchen and family room off from the formal dining and music room spaces with a full room-width sliding “pocket” door.
The resulting space is an open flow, highly functional and dramatic home that overlooks both city and treetop views from the two sides of the main living area. The open floor design allows for full, natural light and cross ventilation in all household spaces. The newly designed kitchen space provides for efficient cooking and family room conversation, with special features that include custom, warm-wood cabinetry below and highly reflective white cabinetry above to blend with surrounding white walls and reflect light throughout. The kitchen also includes a 96” long island that overlooks the family room and casual dining table; 2 oven units, space efficient microwave drawer and new induction stovetop; warming drawer with cabinet front to blend with the other cabinet drawers; built-in cabinet refrigerator/freezer; and task and overhead lighting throughout. The wine bar includes space for 400 wine bottles, double refrigerator drawers, glass and drink storage cabinetry, sink and open “bar” access to the dining and family room areas. The end result is a welcoming home that combines contemporary, light-filled, tree house living and entertaining, with warm, private, comfortable spaces.
