Bookcases and cabinets were installed around perimeter of the space. Original shelves in window openings were revamped in order to maximize merchandising space. Platforms were built to support and display mannequins. Perhaps the most important component of this project was enhancing the dull and dark finishes to give the store a more appealing and inviting look consistent with the J. McLaughlin style. Many forms of lighting were added. Accent lights were installed in cabinets to highlight merchandise. Track lighting and chandeliers were also added strategically to enhance décor. A bright and bold color scheme was applied through painted walls, ceilings and trim; as well as through carpeting, wall hangings and furniture. The back area of the store was completely redesigned to address the need for distinct dressing, storage and staff spaces. Walls were added to separate these areas. Shelves, curtains, finishes and furniture were added similar to main retail space to give the store a complete and consistent look. The result is an old smokehouse, turned J. McLaughlin retail space that shows off the original beauty of the building, yet incorporates bold color and style that is consistent with the J. McLaughlin brand. This resulted in a unique space for them to sell their beautiful clothing. - Photos courtesy of Neffworks Photography
