We worked closely with the clients to revise the existing main level floor plan to rearrange and reorganize the master bedroom, adding a master sitting room which created the perfect space for the covered outdoor living room. With this accomplished, the terrace would now be accessible from both the master bedroom and the family room, which the clients really desired. The new covered terrace has a stone floor and we matched the new brick with the existing brick veneer on the walls. The covered porch is open on two sides with painted Tuscan columns and has a vaulted ceiling giving the space more volume. We added a grilling area which took on a more built-in appearance by becoming a brick anchor on the corner of the terrace. We also added a new stair which leads to an uncovered stone terrace and then down to the rear yard below. With the existing grade and the new design for the main level living, we were leftover with a large basement area. This was wonderful additional square footage to provide the clients with much needed storage and two spaces for their hobbies. Since he appreciates cars, he acquired an additional garage. Her interest in gardening is augmented by the new potting shed. We upgraded the exterior finishes including the eave moldings, gutters, garage doors and Tuscan columns. We chose an iron rail to keep the open feeling of the new covered terrace which feels almost like a tree house. By matching the existing brick, we were able to achieve a seamless transition between new and existing construction.
