Andrew Roby constructed a two story detached garage was from the ground up. The first floor serves as a three car garage with five separate storage rooms. Wood paneling not only gives the garage a more finished and rustic look, it also gives it durability, as it is least susceptible to all the normal wear intrinsic to a garage. The concrete floor was stained to give it a more finished and clean look.
The main area above the garage is an office (for a client who works from home often) and a full service kitchenette. This was important to the clients as they wanted the flexibility to convert this upstairs space into an apartment if the need ever arose. The flooring came from one of the clients familys lumber yard. And all interior woodwork and cabinetry duplicates the style and quality of that in the main home. An exercise room, with closet and full bath completes the upstairs of this detached building. The most important aspect about this detached building for these clients was that it didnt play second fiddle to the main home in terms of aesthetic appeal and architectural detail. Some of the important features that give this building a cohesive likeness to the main home are:
The slate roof and copper detailing.
The custom wood garage doors and exterior storage room doors.
The brick itself, and brick detailing such as the water table line and arches.
The copper dormer roofs.
The multi-piece soffit detail.
