Turner Condos

Feb 09, 2010

Near the intersection of Selwyn Avenue and Queens Road West lies a perfect example of quality custom construction and craftsmanship. Andrew Roby Inc and Meyer-Greeson-Paullin have teamed to build the most sought after real estate in the Myers Park area. With project design by Meyer Greeson and Paullin Benson, Andrew Roby worked with Sammy Greeson and Ryan Windt to design brick homes that exemplify the luxury you would expect in Charlotte's finest neighborhood.

Hardwood floors, custom kitchen cabinetry, Wolf appliances and stone surround fireplaces are just a taste. You will also find woodwork designed for detail with custom library pavers, numerous ceiling beams and flush inset cabinet construction. According to Trent Haston, Vice President of Andrew Roby Inc, "The interior was designed to achieve the efficiency of urban living, but with the quality and architecture of a residence of an early twentieth century statesman."

The attention to detail Andrew Roby is known for is evident in the arches and radiuses throughout the homes to the custom closet systems and granite and tile kitchens and baths. Their craftsmanship extends outside the hand-crafted brick veneer to the limestone entrance and bollards, copper accents and raw iron gates and fencing.

All the beauty and splendor in the was not easy to come by, however. An existing four-unit townhome was raised and cleared of asbestos to make way for the new 14,000-square-foot structure. The site also needed intricate grading, drainage and wall systems to achieve the final product. Add into the mix an industry competitor building another four-unit condominium on the adjacent lot. Andrew Roby served as general contractor over the common area between the two sites, the iron gate system and the common driveway built of custom pavers.

This balancing act proved Andrew Roby's ability to work as a team with the architects and the homeowners, even a second set of homeowners and a competitor in this case. It should come as no surprise that they have won over 70 awards in the industry over the last ten years. This year has added another 13 awards and they are still counting.

The company was founded in 1950 by Hungarian immigrant Andrew Robicsek as a one-man remodeling and handyman service. Two years later he hired Glen Haston as superintendent. They worked together for 25 years building a reputation for custom service and quality. In 1976 Haston bought the company outright and kept the name. Three generations of Hastons work for the firm. In almost 60 years of business, Andrew Roby Inc has strived to treat its employees and clients like family. Two of the original employees worked with the company for more than 50 years and seven others claim over 25 years of service.

From the beginning, Andrew Roby, Inc., has been involved with their community. Roby associates have led hands-on classes with Charlotte Mecklenburg students as part of the If I Had a Hammer program. The company has sponsored at least one team in Dilworth Little League for more than 30 years, as well as a 10-year run with the Myers Park Little League. Many employees serve as coaches, including Don Haston, Vice President, who has coached and served on the board for more than 30 years. Andrew Roby members have also served on the board of the Jim Harkey Memorial Fund, the charitable arm of the Charlotte chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry. They support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as their main cause, raising nearly $40,000 in this year's Pitchin' Corn for a Cure event.

Whether it's remodeling, commercial construction and up-fits, or single family and multi-family homes, Andrew Roby, Inc. is dedicated to providing a quality experience and product. They want their customers to feel like part of the family. The Queens Road condominiums were built for brothers Tim and Bo Turner, who live in the two rear units. Their homes represent the commitment and dedication Andrew Roby Inc puts into every project. It is evident from their work with Meyer-Gleeson-Paullin to the team of ever-ready handymen. Providing quality, custom work and dedication to family and community have been the basis of Andrew Roby, Inc. from the beginning. Their reputation for "Making It Home" was upheld when the Turner brothers chose them for the Queen's Road project. They have once again combined classic design with modern luxury. "It was a pleasure constructing timeless architecture and design in unison with modern standards and technology," says Trent Haston. Andrew Roby, Inc. is online at http://www.andrewroby.com.
